THE UNVEILING OF ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA'S ROMANTIC RHYTHMS
As most people gear up for the fervent high of the
most romantic day of the year,
Valentine's Day 2008 will be a special
celebration in
Antigua and Barbuda - the Love Islands
of the Caribbean.
The refreshing trade winds of these beautiful and
exotic islands will be spreading romance and
igniting passions, as excitement about Antigua and
Barbuda's first international music festival,
Romantic Rhythms continues to gain momentum The
Ministry of Tourism, title sponsors of the event,
will 'unveil" the festival taking it from concept
to reality, on Feb 13.
A media reception is planned at the newly renovated
Rush Night Club and Lounge where the logo, website,
program of events and preliminary artist line-up for
Romantic Rhythms will be presented to media
practitioners and stakeholders. Similar media
events will be held throughout the Caribbean region
and also in other major source markets such as the
US,
UK
and
Canada in the next few weeks.
Dubbed the Caribbean's first Romance Festival,
Romantic Rhythms will feature two mega concerts that
will be staged at the Vivian Richards Stadium.
Another major attraction of Romantic Rhythms will be
the mini concert series called Rhythms of the
Islands. This series of outdoor concerts will take
performances to various intimate entertainment
centers across the destination and allow all
Antiguans and Barbudans the opportunity to connect
with performers and feel the lyrical splendor of
these twin Islands
To give journalists and a select audience a prelude
of what is to come in June the Month of Romance,
Antiguan beauty Shermain Jeremy will perform at a
reception hosted by Minister of Tourism, Hon.
Harold Lovell and Chairman of the
Festival Management Committee, Dr. Alvin Edwards.
The event will be themed Sunset Rhythms and will
help to get this select group of music aficionados
in the mood and evoke treasured memories of a time
when life was simple and there was a stronger sense
of family and community.
On Valentines Day, Lunchtime Rhythms will be staged
at
Redcliffe Quay between 11 - 2. This
free concert will feature Empress of Reggae Jamaican
superstar, Hon. Marcia Griffith O.D.formerly of the
Wailers and local performers including Foster Joseph
and Shermain
Jeremy.
Minister
Harold Lovell is extremely excited
about the upcoming event and said, "After more than
a year of research and planning we are pleased to
unveil the festival Romantic Rhythms to the media
and the public. We want to stimulate excitement by
staging several mini concerts as the countdown to
the destination's first music festival continues.
This will also mark the launch of intensive
promotions locally, regionally and internationally."
Chairman of the Festival Management Committee, Dr.
Alvin Edwards is pleased that the event will move
from concept to reality.
Antigua and Barbuda is ready for an
event of this magnitude. We boast some of the most
majestic sunset views that will be the perfect
backdrop for our outdoor concerts. He points out
that while there is a lot of work to be done, he is
confident that the right team is in place to
successfully manage market and produce the festival.
The Festival Management Committee intends to tap
into the infrastructure and network of volunteers
that had been established to support ICC World Cup.
At the same time, Committee Chairs for the Festival
Management Committee for Romantic Rhythms have been
selected and will be announced shortly.
Located in the heart of the
Caribbean,
Antigua and Barbuda, named Best
Wedding Island at the Caribbean Travel Awards, has
quickly become one of the world's top wedding and
honeymoon destinations. With this designation in
mind, Romantic Rhythms will be the Caribbean's first
Romance Festival. Similar events held around the
world include the Festival of Romance in
Chester, England, Romancing Singapore
and "Return to Romance" in
Hawaii.
